Kathryn is available to work as a writing consultant on your book-length manuscript: fiction or nonfiction, as well as shorter pieces or works in progress.
She provides expertise in the following areas:
Structure. Discovering and/or imposing structure on a book-length manuscript, addressing the question of narrative arc. What is it? To what extent is it necessary, and how can you find or amplify the elements of story to the most potent effect?
Development. Working to develop voice, character, and conflict in a novel or a memoir. How can you deepen the characters to push the story further? How can you develop a consistent style that best suits your story? How does that style in itself help carry the themes?
Polish. Honing prose to improve writing at the level of a the sentence, paragraph, or scene. Developing organizational tools to finish a piece of writing and determine the next steps toward publishing. What actions can save you months or years along the way?
Kathryn charges $75–$125 per hour, depending on the project. The focus varies according to the writer's needs, and the first step is to establish what will be most useful to you.
